poetry is dead 4:08 am
nor silently tread into our homes
no one can call them typical thieves
when they sit in an open hall
adorned with statuary and crushed velvet
two chambers and one oval office
in conflict yet working in concert
stealing our nation slowly across the decades
squandering our blood for ashes and tears
while the busy consumers worry only about
the bills constantly coming due
and someone elses morality
the children! we must protect the children!
if their mothers die? it must be god’s will
god’s will be done even if it creates hell on earth
and the few wept while the many mumbled
they did nothing while the crime was done
unseen before three hundred million witnesses
they did not come in the darkness
nor silently tread into our homes

Iran. British Marines and Sailors. Saber rattling. What a great and total mess! We have a century old mix of colonialism. There’s the bit about the CIA overthrowing the first really democratically elected government in the history of the middle east, replacing it with a monarchy, and doing it because of worries about said democraically elected government not being anticommunist enough. Strangely, no one considered the fact that a majority of Iran’s citizens might resent this. That they might overthrow the monarchy 30 years later and declare the USofA a “great Satan”. Of course, by that time, nobody here remembered the overthrowing of democracy there. USA! USA! USA! We was wronged! Sanctions! Bomb Iran! Let’s elect an actor to be president and never even consider that he might just be playing another ROLE! Thank goodness it’s Morning in America *cue stirring, sappy music*
Now, here we are at the beginning of the end. We can’t win a war against Iran. And I don’t mean that Iran has any chance of defeating us. The USA will be able to claim another Mission Accomplished moment. It’s just that the consequences of such a victory would be dire. Iran is a country of varied terrains. Mountains, deserts, and planes. We know how well we’ve done in securing the mountainous regions of Afganistan. Iran is not a country that’s short on money. They’ve bought some very high end weapons systems from Russia and China. 1500 mph antiship missiles. The USA Aegis naval missile defense system is designed to intercept 500 mph missiles. They’ve bought super-cavitating 200 mph torpedoes. The Navy’s anti-torpedo systems were designed to stop 60 mph torpedoes. The multitdudes of Iranian Republican Guard fast attack boats aren’t a huge threat to the ships of the USA naval forces, individually. In huge swarms and in suicide attack mode? Much bigger problem!
So, what do you think the government of George W Bush, Dick Cheney, Joe Lieberman, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, gunslinger Jim Webb, and Nancy Pelosi do if just 1 missile or torpedo got through and sank an aircraft carrier with several thousand US sailors aboard? No option is off the table, right? Tell me you’re ready to sit at home and watch CNN/MSNBC/Faux reporting as the world begins to explode, LIVE! Don’t say it could never happen. All of them seem to be determined to witness the end of the world.
I just don’t want them to take me along for the rapture

Except for the gunmen mowing down people in Iraq (thank you again Mr President and Congress), police crackdowns in Zimbabwe, and meteors almost hitting an airliner over New Zealand. Hey! What an excuse! General, all those helicopters were hit by METEORS! I mean, why wouldn’t Murka believe it? They still think Ronald W Reagan was a saint!
With that, let me take a moment to be as pompous as possible and go over what this site is NOT:
It’s not a site dedicated to electing everyone who claims to be a member of the Democratic Party but votes like a member of the Republican Party
It’s not a site where you can be banned on whims. You’ll have to pull a real whopper to get banned here. Accuse me of being like mass murderers, for example
It’s not a site that’s going to frequently look into the fetid hearts of money motivated political bloggers. There are already sites here on WordPress that do a better job on that than I could ever do. Thank you
What this site WILL do is look at a snapshot of the day’s events and then I’ll spout off my opinions about it. Some days it will be humorous, others outraged. But it’ll NEVER be choreographed from above, in lockstep with “little sister” sites. I’m too much the cynical crab-ass for that to happen. And I’m trusting you all to keep me honest. If anyone on my blogroll told me I was full of shit that day, I’d take it to heart and step back. Anybody is capable of earning that same trust, let me know what you’re thinking
